Trailhead Spring Runoff Event

 

The 2nd annual Trailhead Spring Runoff Event will be held on Saturday, April 24th 9:00am-4:00pm at the Trailhead store on 1960 Scott St. Ottawa. Join local paddling & hiking clubs, conservation groups (including the Friends of the Jock River), experts, outdoor skills schools and Trailhead as they present a day of free information on what to do, where to go and what gear to take canoeing, kayaking and hiking this season.

 

From 8:30 - 10:00 am there will be a pancake breakfast with proceeds going to local conservation groups.

 

Trailhead will also feature a DVD featuring local paddlers called “This is Canoeing” and will introduce the “River Bug” & “Tequila”. Trailhead will also run a sale on both Saturday and Sunday on used canoes and kayaks, and will have incredible deals on clothing, footwear & gear. Please see the attached "e-mail invitation" (NB - contrary to poster, the Runoff Event is only Saturday.)

Come out to the FJR/Scouts Spring Tree Plant

Saturday, May 1st, 2010 from 9 to 4

 

OR- Open Invitational Volunteer  Spring Tree Plant

Sunday, May 2nd, 9 to 4

 

Location both days is Jock River Park in Richmond. (end of Lennox St.)
We plant rain or shine, we only cancel due to lightning danger
Dress for weather, long pants, long sleeved shirts, hat, sturdy work boots, gloves.
Bring a shovel and bucket, water and food, if you have them. Not mandatory. All are welcome to work a few hours or stay for the day. It’s a great workout!
High School students needing community service hours should bring form from their school office, we are happy to sign for good workers who shows up wearing  sturdy boots. (No running shoes!)

 


CANOE/KAYAK EXCURSIONS INTO THE RICHMOND FEN WETLAND

 

The Friends of the Jock River will be leading two afternoon canoe/kayak excursions on Saturday May 8th and Thursday May 13th, into the Richmond Fen Wetland, the largest provincially significant wetland in Eastern Ontario. The Fen is an incredibly diverse wetland populated by many birds, aquatic mammals (beaver, otter, muskrat) and plants. We will be canoeing/kayaking up the Jock River from the Richmond Centennial Golf Course into the Richmond Fen Wetland and will be returning to the same site. This excursion is not limited to members of the Friend of the Jock River but some competence in a canoe or kayak is required. Advance registration is not required but participants review all the information under
