Friends of the Jock River Win Conservation Award
On the evening of April 24, 2004, the Friends of the Jock River were awarded the prestigious OFNC Conservation Award by the Ottawa Field Naturalists' Club (OFNC). The annual award, which is given to a group or individual who has made an outstanding contribution in the cause of conservation in the Ottawa Valley, was awarded to the Friends of the Jock River in recognition of their "dedicated, inspired, hard-working and thoughtful approach to protecting the health of the Jock River and its watershed."
The Friends of the Jock River were recognized for many of their projects, past and ongoing, including their annual tree plants along the Jock River, the Twin Elm restoration, and the Jock River Stream Survey project. They were also recognized for their advocacy projects in support of the Richmond Conservation Area and against the planned pipeline from Munster to Richmond.
Members Brian Finch and Eric Snyder were pleased to accept this award on behalf of the Friends of the Jock River. "It was a real honour receiving a Conservation Award from such a distinguished organization as the Ottawa Field Naturalists' Club," said Eric.
